Ask
Seek
Knock
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7:7 bold mine).
I stood waiting, wondering why the elevator wasn’t stopping on our floor. . . I had forgotten to push the button that asks it to stop.
You do not have, because you do not ask (James 4:2).
You do not have, because you do not ask (James 4:20).
You do have, because you do ask (from John 14:14).
We’ve seen lives changed by God through prayer. Yet I feel this was written to me: “Until now you have asked for nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full (John 16:24),”

I stood waiting for the elevator, my mind preoccupied. It didn’t come until I remembered to push the button that calls it.
There’s a prayer lesson here. God has said, “You do not have because you do not ask (James 4:2).”
What moves God to hear our prayers?
His desire to answer us and our asking —“Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (Jeremiah 33:3).”*

We wanted to have our car’s oil changed today, but when I called the garage I learned the first available appointment is next week.
If I had called last week, they could have done it today.
A simple prayer, like a simple phone call, changes everything.
Remember to pray.
Here’s what happens when you talk things over with God: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7:7).
