When they cried to the Lord, he put darkness between them and the Egyptians (Joshua 24:7), who were in hot pursuit.
Pray for protection from the enemy—God is our help and shield (from Psalm 115:11).

We tell our grandchildren that God answers prayer. God showed them He does.
Three granddaughters and their parents left our apartment right on schedule. The elevator came. We got on. The door shut. The elevator didn’t move. The door wouldn’t open. We pushed the help button.
Grandpa said, “Let’s all pray, ‘Father, we need your help.'” The elevator moved. When it stopped, the door opened. We made it outside before their Uber ride to the airport arrived. We thanked God!
God used an elevator emergency to show our granddaughters that He answers prayer.
May we never forget.
Here’s how the Israelites worshiped God when He delivered them:
“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously . . .
The Lord will reign forever and ever (Exodus 15:1-18)!”
Worship when God answers you.
Job said, “I call on God and expect an answer (Job 12:4).”
God said, “My servant Job has spoken accurately about me (from Job 42:7).”
As I watched the storm, I asked God to let me take a picture of lightning.
The Lord causes clouds to rise over the earth. He sends lightning with the rain (Jeremiah 51:16). And He answers prayers.
To God alone be the glory!
Ezra believed God’s hand was on them, so rather than ask for protection from men, he prayed.
The Bible tells what happened: “We fasted and implored God for this, and he listened to our entreaty” (Ezra 8:23).
Take prayer, and God’s answers, seriously.
We are a needy people and only God can meet our needs.
Ask, and it will be given to you (Matthew 7:7).
I made a very specific request.
I got a very specific answer.
That’s how I know God answers prayer.
I got a curious phone message last week, from someone I love: “Please call me. I have something to tell you.”
I called as soon as I could, and heard these words: “Remember that guy you prayed for during my college days? He just informed that he was baptized because he believes in Jesus!”
For years, the two us prayed faithfully for his salvation. And now his friend is a brother!

And keep on praying for the salvation of those you love! The next prayer God answers might be yours!
God always answers prayer.
Ask and it will be given to you (Matthew 7:7).
