Pray the Lord’s Prayer for others

Use the Lord’s Prayer for intercession by putting the name of the person you’re praying for in each clause.*

Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy in [name of person]. May your kingdom come in him. May your will be done in [person’s name] as it is in heaven. Give him today the food he needs, and forgive his sins. Help him to forgive those who sin against him. Don’t let [person’s name] yield to temptation, but rescue him from the evil one (adapted from Matthew 6:9-13).

Claim Justice

Intercession is often associated with agonizing entreaty or tearful supplication. It is sometimes conceived as an endeavor to overcome the reluctance of God. But God does not have to be coaxed into granting a divine blessing.

With Christ as our advocate, we approach God to claim the justice we are entitled to because of His sacrifice.*

God is faithful and just and will forgive us (1 John 1:9).
