Guilty, you enter God’s throne room. Jesus sits beside our Father, pleading for you. His sacrifice atoned for your sin. The Holy Spirit is also there, praying for you, with groans that can’t be expressed in words.
You rise up, forgiven! (from 1 John 2:1-2; Romans 8:26; I John 1:9)
We know that all Scripture is God-breathed, written by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
So, one way to pray in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18), is to pray Scripture.
Then your prayers will be in concert with the Spirit who helps us know how to pray as we should (from Romans 8:26).
My oldest granddaughters are 3 year olds. They can’t address an envelope or buy a stamp or write a sentence on their own.
The only reason we get mail from them is because of their parents. My dear daughter, daughter-in-law and sometimes even my son, make time and provide materials needed to communicate with us. (We are blessed beyond words.)
And how does this relate to prayer? We can’t do it alone either. The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought (Romans 8:26).
Trust Him to guide your prayers when you don’t have words.
The Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26).
When you’re in a foreign country, shop with a friend who speaks the language. She’ll negotiate the price so you’ll get a good deal.
My analogy isn’t perfect. God is a loving Father, not a money-making merchant; but when we pray, the Spirit speaks God’s language. He negotiates for us.
A friend who knows makes all the difference.
